Styling your session and why it's important!

The outfits you choose to wear for your session should reflect your style. But you need to consider how colours, textures and styles play a huge role in the outcome of your photos. When we book your session, we will go over your vision and some tips and tricks to achieve your dream session.

Colour

The colours you choose should help you both stand out and blend with the environment around you. Which is why location is so important in the equation. Generally, I highly recommend leaning towards neutral, earthy, vibrant and rich.

Instead of putting two people in the same colour (big no no, btw), choose colours that complement each other rather than match always including neutrals to avoid a colour overload. Also to keep in mind how my editing style will vary based on the colour palette chosen.

Texture & Patterns

Adding texture and patterns will help bring movement, dimensions and make your images that much more captivating. Great examples are chunky sweaters, long and flowy dresses, velvet, corduroy and soft cottons. Mix and match a variety of textures both within the same outfit and across your whole family.

Another great way to bring more visual interest is patterns. As a general rule, one of every three people should be in a pattern. We can go over the best ones when you book!

LAYERS

The depth and visual interest layers bring a whole new level of coziness, cuddles and warmth. Blankets or cardigans look amazing worn off the shoulder. As well as jackets and sweaters are great options for the men!
